The ferry 'Maria Rebecca’ (IMO: 7210379) got out of control and struck the port side bow of the 'Antonia 1' with its starboard side at Port of Jolo in Sulu on Nov 4, 2025, due to high waves brought by the typhoon Tino on the morning. There were rough seas in the area and wind speeds of 80 mph, gusting to 110 mph. The ferry lost a maneuvering control while attempting to dock at the Port of Jolo at around 7:45 a.m., and it allided with the 'Antonia 1', which was moored in the port in pos. 06° 48' N 121° 53' E.. Initial assessment confirmed no casualties, injuries or oil spills, and no immediate threat to maritime safety. The extent of structural damage sustained by both vessels remained under joint inspection and evaluation. The 'Maria Rebecca' had damages at the starboard side superstructure, the 'Antonia 1' was damaged at port side above the waterline. The 'Maria Rebecca' was able to later proceed to a dock for an inspection. The Philippine Coast Guard was on hand for surveys and has advised both captains to file documentation for the investigation. A Vietnamese and his three-year-old daughter were rescued after they jumped off the 'Antonia 1' to avoid deportation in this city on MArch 19, 2023. Nguyen Thanh Truc, 37, and his daughter, both of Ho Chi Minh City, had arrived on March 14 on board the 'Antonia 1' from Sandakan, Sabah. The ferry dropped anchor between Barangay Sta. Barbara and Sta. Cruz Island for quarantine and inspection. The Bureau of Immigration ordered the crew members of the ferry to bring the foreigners back to Sabah due to incomplete documents. The order prompted Thanh Truc and his daughter to jump overboard at around 5:40 a.m.

The Philippines Coast Guard jointly with other law enforcement agencies prevented sex trafficking aboard the 'Antonia 1' and rescued 13 females. The ship was stormed by a joint team on Dec 16, 2019, in Zamboanga. The ship was due to sail to Sandakan, Sabah. The victims were mostly from Luzon.
