Pathagon

A mechanical failure delayed the 'Pathagon' on Oct 21, 2025, after a fault was detected in one of the ship's four engines. The situation triggered the safety protocols established by the company Transbordadora Austral Broom (Tabsa). The ferry had set sail at 9:00 a.m. ofrom Punta Arenas enroute to Porvenir with 122 passengers on board. The ferry returned to the Tres Puentes Terminal at 9:40 a.m., After the issue was resolved at 2:20 p.m., the ship set sail again for Porvenir. During the system inspection and repair, passengers were offered the option of remaining on board to resume their journey once the fault was resolved, or requesting a refund. Those who chose to remain on the vessel were provided with a complimentary snack.

On Nov 4, 2024, the transport company TABSA reported problems with the toilets of the 'Pathagon' due to blockages and called for responsible use. The company hired an external company specializing in technical services to carry out a detailed inspection of the sanitary facilities of the ferry and to perform corrective maintenance of the ferry's Wastewater Treatment Plant, motivated by problems recorded on Oct 14, when the passenger bathrooms of the vessel became unusable due to failures in the evacuation of wastewater. The specialists identified an obstruction in the plant's internal suction ducts. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the system was blocked by rags and hygienic protection elements, which had allegedly been introduced intentionally. In light of these events, TABSA has issued a call to all users to make responsible use of the toilets and avoid throwing objects that could cause damage to the sanitary facilities. In addition, the company has implemented new preventive measures to reduce the possibility of incidents of this type recurring.

The 40-year-old Ronald Ojeda Reyes who carried out maneuvers inside the "Pathagon" at the Tres Puentes marine terminal, about 5 kilometers north of Punta Arenas, died in an accident on April 28, 2019, around 8 a.m. The crew member was trapped by the heavy rope used to stabilize the ship while it is docked at the terminal. The police proceedings delayed the departure of the ferry to Porvenir until the afternoon. Detectives of the Homicide Brigade and experts of the Criminalistics Laboratory (Lacrim) of the police carried out investigations. The body of the victim was transferred to the Legal Medical Service for an autopsy.
