First sailing had to be cancelled

Jan 16, 2026 20:14

Samsølinjen's new electric ferry 'Tyrfing' has left the shipyard in Svendborg on the afternoon of Jan 14 and passed under the Great Belt Bridge on Jan 14 on its way to Ballen and arrived in Kalundborg at 8.30 p.m., expecting the inspection for finaly approval by the Danish Maritime Authority on Jan 15 with a view to the first sailing from Ballen on Jan 16 at 7:00 a.m. and arrival in Kalundborg at 8.20 a.m. The very first departure had, however, to be cancelled. The Danish Maritime Authority found errors that needed to be corrected first. The ferry did not depart until 1:30 PM. The ferry was originally supposed to be deployed one year ago, but this did not happen due to major delays at the Cemre Shipyard. Now Alslinjen can finally insert the twin ferry 'Nerthus', which has been serving the Samsø route since June 16. During the charter of the 'Nerthus', the Alsen route has been served by the 'Frigg Sydfyen', which can only carry 50 cars - 138 fewer than the 'Nerthus' can carry. Tyrfing delayed again

Jan 06, 2026 09:28

Molslinjen, external suppliers and the shipyard in Svendborg have made a new plan over the weekend of Jan 3/4, 2026, which will put the 'Tyrfing' into operation on Jan 16. The plan was now the 'Tyrfing' to have its final inspection on Jan 15 and start operating the next day. Until then, the almost identical electric ferry 'Nerthus' will sail on the Samsø route, while the ferry 'Frigg Sydfyen' will handle the traffic on the Als route, which was waiting to get the 'Nerthus' operating between Bøjden and Fynshav on Jan 16, if everything goes according to plan.

Start of ferry operation delayed again

Dec 09, 2025 09:42

The start of operations of the 'Tyrfing' was further delayed. After the tough and weather-beaten voyage to Svendborg, the work at the shipyard was proving to be more extensive than planned. The technical preparations have not yet been finished. The almost identical electric ferry 'Nerthus' is already sailing on the Samsø route, and therefore Christmas traffic was not expected to be affected by the delay. The 'Nerthus' was supposed to have been moved to the Alslinjen, but that plan has now been postponed. The new plan was that the 'Tyrfing' will be put into operation on Jan 5, 2026. Once it is in place, the 'Nerthus' will be moved to the Als line.

Ferry arrived at Svendborg Værft two weeks delayed

Nov 27, 2025 10:10

On Nov 25, Molslinjen's new electric ferry 'Tyrfing', after a long voyage in rough weather from Turkey, has arrived at the Svendborg Værft, where the final adjustments have now been made before the ferry can be deployed on the route between Ballen and Kalundborg 14 days later than planned. As one weather system replaced the other, the ferry could not do much other than seek shelter. This meant, among other things, an unplanned stop in Setúbal, where the ferry had to wait for better weather. The delay meant that the plans to put the 'Tyrfing' into operation on Dec 1 have been postponed. The new plan indicated that the 'Tyrfing' can be expected to be in operation on the route between Ballen and Kalundborg on Dec 15. The delay has just been approved by the Ministry of Transport.

Delivery voyage interrupted due to bad weather

Nov 04, 2025 10:23

The 'Tyrfing', Samsølinjen's new hybrid ferry, was hit by bad weather on its way from the builder's yard to Danish waters. Headwinds, high waves and bad weather in the Mediterranean accompanied the ship throughout the first part of the voyage, after it set off from Altinova on Oct 23, 2025, and therefore the captain made the decision to dock in Cartagena on Oct 30, which was not a planned port call. The ship remained stationary in port as of Nov 4, waiting for weather improvement.

Ferry enroute to Svendborg with a delay of several months

Oct 24, 2025 09:35

The 'Tyrfing', the new electric ferry of the Samsølinjen, has left the shipyard in 'Altinova ojn Oct 23, 2025, with a significant delay and set course for Denmark. She is the sister ship to Alslinjen's electric ferry. The approximately 18-day journey to Denmarke is carried out using the ferry's diesel backup engines, as the batteries can only be charged in the specially built charging facilities in Ballen and Kalundborg. The 'Tyrfing' will refuel once - either in Setúbal or Vigo, before continuing towards Denmark, where she will sail emission-free between Samsø and Kalundborg. The ship sail directly to Svendborg, where it will be prepared and approved by the authorities before its first crossing on the Samsø route on Dec 1, 2025. This means that the electric ferry 'Nerthus', which has been inserted for sailing on the Samsø line since the summer, can finally be deployed on the Als line, as originally planned.
