Ships underway again for repairs and unloading

Temporary repairs of the 'BC Vanessa' were carried at the Tuzla shipyard anchorage area, as per class surveyor's recommendations. The class surveyor re-attended onboard and verified the repair status upon completion of the temporary repairs. The vessel was granted departure permission and it heaved up anchor, headed to the Canakkale Strait on Nov 1. It moored again atMArmara West Anchorage at the northern entrance of the Strait on Nov 2, waiting for the transit permission en route to Sfax in pos. 40° 33.61' N 027° 02.09' E. Regarding the 'Benitamou', the cargo discharge schedule was changed due to the incident, and the vessel berthed at the Icdas port and the cargo discharge operation commenced upon completion of the custom formalities. The vessel will be shifted from Icdas port to a shipyard in ballast condition, in order to carry out permanent repairs.

Initial surveys and damage inspection aboard the 'BC Vanessa' were carried out at Sevketiye anchorage. The ship was then granted departure permission from the Harbour Master to sail to Tuzla anchorage, where it anchored on Oct 28. Repairs will be carried as per class surveyor recommendations. As of Oct 30 it remained stationary in pos. 40° 50.40' N 029° 16.43' E.

Collision in Marmara Sea

The 'BC Vanessa' was in collision with the ore carrier 'Benitamou' (IMO:9439046)in the Marmara Sea halfway between Sarkoy, Tekirdag, and Gelibolu, Canakkale, on Oct 24, 2021, at 03.10 a.m. Both ships were proceeding towards the Dardanelles and crashed in dense fog. The 'BC Vanessa' hit the 'Benitamou' midships at port side which suffered a huge breach and water ingress. The bow and forecastle of the 'BC Vanessa' were heavily damaged too. She moored at Sevketiye anchorage. Coastal Safety deployed the tugs 'Nazim Tur', 'Kurtarma 4', 'Kurtarma 15' and 'Seren 2' to the scene. The 'Benitamou' had been loaded with a cargo of iron ore en route from Yuzhny to China, the 'BC Vanessa' underway from Varna to Tunis.
