Collision off Gibraltar
The tanker "Meridian Express" collided with the "Southern Light" on Jan 23, 2018, at a10.40 p.m. on Gibraltar West Anchorage in the Bay of Algeciras. The ship, sailing in ballast, was departing Gibraltar anchorage, while the "Southern Light", loaded with yellow corn in bulk, was anchored. The "Southern Light" lost its starboard anchor and suffered a dent on her starboard bow. The "Meridian Express" sustained a gash of approximately 5 meters length at the port side bow underneath the water line and another gash of approximately two meters on top approximately near the deck. The tanker had arrived from Lagos on Jan 23 and seemed to have struck the bulk carrier while maneuvering.
