Allision in Brake

In the afternoon of Jan 15, 2018, at 2.30 p.m. the caro m/v "Peikko" (IMO: 8324684) allided with two other ships at the pier in the port of Brake, Wesermarsch municipality. The 55 year old master had tried to shift berths afer unloading operations in port had been completed, but misjudged the tide currents and wind conditions. The vessel hit the bulkcarrier "Aracari Arrow (IMO: 9008706) and the "Mistral" which were both moored at the pier. The bulkcarrier suffered such significant damage that it was detained in port. The hull of the "Peikko" had suffered a breach which had to be welded. The ship was allowed to leave towards Aarhus in the night hours at 7.30 p.m., ETA Jan 17. The police launched an investigation against the master. The bulkcarrier finally left Brake towards Rouen on Jan 16 at 2.15 p.m., ETA Jan 18, 5 p.m. The "Peikko" was transiting the Kiel Canal the same afternoon, ETA Aarhus Jan 17 at noon. The "Mistral" left the Brake pier at 4 p.m. and dropped anchor on Blexen Roads on the Weser.

Drunk machinist fell into water but was quickly saved

On Nov 30, 2012, at 9 p.m. at 21.00 clock the machinist of the "Mitral" fell into the water of the Trave while the tug was berthed in Travemünde at the Ostpreussen Quay. Fortunately witnesses had seen the accident and were able to save him after a short time. The 69-year-old from Hamburg had consumed considerable amounts of alcohol on the Christmas Market at the quay. When he returned to the ship with his mate, they were being watched by a witness. When trying to jump aboard the tug, he missed the bulwark, slipped and fell into the 6.5 ° C cold water between ship and quay. Immediately a rescue rod was brought by three men who had seen the accident and the man could be saved. An ambulance took him to the Sana Hospital with suspected hypothermia. As a statutory gangway had lacked, the water police Travemünde has launched an investigation against the 49-year-old captain from Hamburg.
