One yard worker was killed and at least four more people were injured when the "Elmes", which was undergoing repairs and maintenance in the Tuzla Shipyards area, suddenly tipped over to port side at the Yıldız Shipyard, on Oct 9, 2025, at around 2:30 p.m. The vessel which was undergoing repairs and maintenance, developed a list at its berth for yet unknown reasons. Some of the workers on board fell into the sea, while a hatch cover and several other things started sliding from the deck of the ship. The hatch cover fell on some of the workers on the quay. Numerous paramedics, the Fire Department, the Coastguard, and police teams were dispatched to the scene following the alert and launched rescue operations. Vlasyuk Yevgen, a 46-year-old Ukrainian worker, died when the hatch of the evacuation ramp fell on him. Following examination, the deceased worker's body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute. An investigation into the incident has been launched by the relevant authorities. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has also launched an investigation, and safety experts are continuing to inspect the area. Since August 2025, the vessel has been registered for the Marshall Islands-based company SLA Marine Co. and was berthed at the shipyard since July 28.
