Damaged tanker under tow to Rostov-on-Don
The towing of the 'Sig' for repairs at the port of Aksay, Rostov-on-Don, began in the morning of Aug 8, being carried out by the Russian-flagged tug 'Konevets Barabulka'. On board of the tanker was a team of the Azovo-Chernomorsky branch of the Marine Rescue Service, consisting of three people with sump pumps, OSR equipment and a supply of sorbent. The rescue team of the Marine Rescue Service continued to pump out the oil-water emulsion from the engine room to the vessel's tanks. The emergency rescue group of the AChF MCC was cleaning the engine room from the remnants of oil products with a biosorbent. Control of the booms located inside the engine room was carried out. In total, 756 kilograms of biosorbents have been used since the beginning of the recovery operation. No pollution of the water area has been observed. Damaged tanker patched
After a marine drone crashed into the 'Sig' in the vicinity of pos. 45 01 06 N, 036 31 40 E, about 30 nautical miles south of the Kerch Strait on Aug 5, the tanker was prepared for towing to a shipyard. On Aug 78 at 10 a.m. Moscow time, a patch was brought to the site of the hole, and an additional boom was installed in the area of the engine room. During the day, the patch was fixed in place by welding. Snce the morning of Aug 7, the water area of the inner contour of the boom was treated with a biosorbent. A total of 546 kilograms of biosorbent was used. The collection of oil and residual oil slicks from the engine room to a tank also continued. A total of 55 cubic meters of oil-water emulsion was collected. The tugs 'Merkuriy', 'Impuls' and 'Vodolaz Kuzminykh' of the Azovo-Chernomorsky branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Morspasluzhba continued to take part in the salvage work.
Tanker damaged by Ukrainian drones
On Aug 4, 2023, at 10.30 p.m. the 'Sig' was damaged by Ukrainian marine drones and hit at starboard side in the waterline at the height of the engine roomin the vicinity of pos. 45 01 06 N, 036 31 40 E, at about 30 nautical miles south of the Kerch Strait with 11 crew members on board. There were no casualties, and the vessel remained afloat. The crew tried to cope the flooding of the engine room. The Russian tug 'Merkuriy' and the Russian flagged research vessel 'Impuls' were depployed to assist, and after the tug went alongside, the water ingress could be controlled. Peparations were underway for pumping out the vessel's stern ballast tanks and installing a patch. Oil booms were also laid out. The 'Sig' had previously delivered aviation fuel from Crimea to Syria and was included in the United States sanctions list.
