Tanker breached in collision with explosives freighter
The "Elisabet" was in collision with the cargo ship "Baita Jaya Samudera", 1600 dwt (IMO: 8713108) in Thousand Islands waters, northwest of Jakarta, in the morning of Apr 7, 2017. The tanker suffered a hull breach at starboard side and developeda list. The tanker’s crew of 13 was evacuated. The tanker was en route to Jakarta. The cargo ship, being loaded with ammonium nitrate and bound from Sunda Kelapa Port to Tanjung Balai Karimun in Riau Islands, sank. The crew of 19 and two escorting members of the West Java Police suffered only minor injuries.
