Lawsuit due to cargo damage

The JSC Rosoboronexport, Russia's sole state intermediary agency for the conntry's arms exports/imports, filed a lawsuit against the Baltic Trans-Port Company, St. Petersburg, the charterer of the "Nikifor Begichev" for damage to a cargo of S-400 missile system components and missiles too, in January 2018. All of them found to be in irreparable condition and a total loss. Rosoboronexport estimated total loss to be about $165 million. The system was bound to China, and the company claimed it would deliver a new system instead of the lost one.

Defense missile system damaged in storm

The "Nifikor Begichev" which sailed from Ust-Luga on Dec 30, 2017, destined for China, in the night Jan 3, 2018,ran into a storm and experienced troubles in the English Canal with bulk cargo on deck. The ship was drifting for some time, and on 5 a.m. on Jan 3 turned back. The extent of damages sustained was unknown. She returned to Ust-Luga anchorage on Jan 9. The cargo included in the first shipment of the S-400 Triumph (NATO Code SA-21-Growler) air defense missile systems, which was sent to China under the 2014 contract, which has been damaged by the storm and was returned to Russia. Work was underway to assess the damage in order to make it possible to cover losses in accordance with insurance. During the discharge on June 22 the yacht "Excellent" slipped out of the forward sling of the cargo gear of the "Apollogracht" in the port of Split, Croatia, on June 22. The yacht plunged bow-first into the water and suffered damage to its bow and a badly twisted handrail.
