Cargo ship developed a list
The 'Cayo', enroute from Lumut port to Hon Gai, Quang Ninh, with a cargo of clay and 15 crew members, among them 13 Vietnamese, one Indian and one Bangladeshi, lost stability and developed a list of 15 degrees to starboard side on Dec 5, 2025, at 11:21 p.m. (Vietnam time), in pos. 05°20 N 104°13 E, about 65 nautical miles east of the Malaysian coast, amid northeastern winds of force 4-5, and wave heights of 1-2 meters. Immediately after receiving a distress call via the Hai Phong Coastal Information Station, the Vietnam MRCC (under the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration, Ministry of Construction) contacted the Malaysia MRCC, requesting to deploy emergency support measures to ensure the safety of theship's crew. At the same time, the Center reported to the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration and the National Civil Defense Steering Committee. The Malaysia MRCC dispatched the Coast guard ship KM 'Sebatik' (MMSI: 533140015) to conduct safety monitoring and guide the ship to an anchorage in pos. 04° 59.40 N, 103° 24.03 E, off Kemaman port, where the ship was now waiting for a tug. All crew members were safe, in good health, and did not require medical assistance. Fire on cargo ship on Thi Vai River
The "VTB 36" caught fire in the night of Dec 9, 2016, at 11.15 p.m. on the Thị Vải river, upstream from Vũng Tàu . The fire started at 11 p.m. in the superstructure. The vessel, being loaded with 4630 tons of maize, was en route from Cái Mép to Quy Nhơn. The Coastguard Station Cái Mép sent two boats in collaboration with the police and fire rescue of the Tan Thanh District and other forces conducting rescue work, among them five tugs. The fire was extinguished during the night of Dec 10 at 2.30 a.m. by tugs, the 12 crew members, two passengers and two pilots were evacuated. In the run of Dec 10 the ship was anchored in the port area of Phước Hòa in the Tân Thành District. The superstructure was largely gutted.
