Ferry suffered trouble with Voith unit
The 'Hallaig', serving on the route Sconser - Raasay, suffered a technical issue affecting the Voith unit on Oct 12. As a consequence, the Vessel was unavailable for service on Oct 13. Spares have been sourced and were to be taken to the vessel for repairs. The 'Loch Bhrusda' was called as a replacement ferry. The service was due to resume at approximately 2:30 p.m. departing from the port of Raasay. With the 'Loch Brushda' having been relocated from the route Mallaig.Armadale, several scheduled sailings had to be cancelled. Affected were the departures from Mallaig at 08:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. and from Armadale at 09:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. The dapartures from Mallaig at 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and from Armadale at 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. were liable to disruption or complete cancellation. On the morning of Oct 15 the issue with the Voith unit of the 'Hallaig' has been successfully resolved. The vessel resumed its service with the 09:55 a.m. sailing departing from the port of Raasay.
Ferry suffered generator issue
The 'Hallaig', serving on the route Sconser-Raasay, suffered a technical issue with the vessel's generator on Aug 24. As a consequence. the service was suspended timewise. After repairs in Raasay, the ferry departed from the port again at approximately 12:15 p.m.
Sailings cancelled due to technical issue
Due to a technical issue on the 'Hallaig', serving on the route Sconser-Raasay, on July 17, the scheduled 07:55 a.m. sailing departing from Raasay and the 08:25 a.m. sailing departing from Sconser had to be cancelled. The ship was sidelined in Raasay for repairs. While the investigations into the issue were ongoing, also the the 08:55 a.n. sailing departing Raasay and the 09:25 a.m. sailing departing Sconser were cancelled. After troubleshooting, the ferry returned to service with a delayed 08:55 a.m. sailing departing from the port of Raasay. The 'Hallaig' operated a shuttle service. The vessel intended to go back to timetable at 12:15 p.m.
Ferry suffered technical issue
Pending attendance of shore-based engineers, weather restrictions have been placed on the 'Hallaig', serving on the route Raasay-Sconser, on Feb 2, 2025.In order to provide additional capacity, the 'Hallaig' operated the following additional sailings: Departure Raasay – 09:00 a.m. Departure Sconser – 09:30 a.m. After engineers have attended the ship, and the technical issue has been resolved, the service resumed with the departure from Raasay at 04:30 p.m. and at 5:00 p.m. from Sconser.
Battery ferry forced to sail with diesel after failure
The 'Hallaig', which had suffered a battery failure and was taken out of service in Raasay on Sep 7, 2023, has been forced to run exclusively on diesel fuel for some time and will continue to do so well into the year 2025. Officials expected repairs to the battery to be completed no earlier than April 2025, at a cost of 1,5 million Euros.
