Collision in Porto Alegre
On Dec 21, 2017, around 9 a.m. the "BBC Kibo" was in collision with a tug at the entrance to the port of Porto Alegre. The tug had tried to start the engine which failed so she could not get out of the way of the approaching cargo ship. It was hit at starboard side and pushed across the harbour before the cargo ship could slow down. The accident will be investigated by the Navy. The "BBC Kibo", coming from Ilo, was carrying transformers and accessories and was destinated to the port of Santos and then the port of Zárate.
