Surplus ferry to be auctioned
The North Carolina Department of Transportation had put the 'Thomas A. Baum' up for auction on the state’s surplus property website. On Sep 14, 2022, the Iron Horse Auction Company of Rockingham, N.C., announced that it will conduct an online w/live bid center auction of the ship which was deemed surplus after being replaced by a larger vessel, the Rodanthe, that can carry 10 more cars and twice as many passengers. The 'Thomas A. Baum' is docked in Havelock at Cherry Branch, N.C., where the live auction will take place on Octo 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Those interested in looking at the vessel before the auction are advised to do so starting at 10:00 a.m. on that day. The online auction is scheduled to begin Oct 6, and conclude on Oct 13.
