Bulker grounded at Cabo Rojo
The "Great Qin" being loaded with 170000 tons bauxite ran aground 2.7 nautical miles from Cabo Roju port in the Southwestern Pedernales Province on Apr 7, 2014. The Dominican Navy worked with other agencies to prevent damage to the shore, especially nearby Bahia de las Aguilas. The "Great Qin" was enroute from the port at Cabo Rojo to Shandong, China. There was no danger of spill or cracks that compromise its hull so far. The Navy chief of staff Edwin Dominici on Apr 8 with Environment Minister Bautista Rojas and Port Authority director Ramon Rivas to coordinate the effort to dislodge the ship.
