BBC Citirine rescued 18 distressed fishermen of Jorge Seif Junior

The Brazilian 26-m-tuna fishing vessel "Jorge Seif Junior" of the JS Fished in Itaqui sank in the morning of Oct 20, 2016, at 8.40 a.m. in waves of 4,5 meters height 45 miles off Imbituba in the Santa Catarina State. The nearby "BBC Citriine" rescued 18 crew members, one of whom died, another six fishermen were still missing in the evening. The Brazilian Navy triggered the Captaincy of Laguna Ports, and a helicopter, an aircraft of the Brazilian Air Force as well as the patrol boat "Beneventte" from Rio Grance were mobilized to join the SAR operation. The search area covered 150 square kilometers. At 12.50 p.m. a Black Hawk helicopter hoisted the crew member Aflíngio Laurindo dos Santos from the "BBC Citrine" with suspected fractures in the chest. He was taken to the Hospital Celso Ramos in Florianópolis for treatment. The heavy load carrier was en route from Buenos Aires to Itaguai, ETA Oct 21, where the vessel disembarked the castaways.
