May 28, 2013 09:44

On May 20, 2013, the "Yong Xing Zhou" was attacked by twelve pirates in the Gulf of Aden according to the latest report from security consultant AKE Maritime. There have been eight other reported suspicious sightings in the area most at the western entrance to the Gulf of Aden. Some reports suggested that a limited number of pirate groups seemed to defy the monsoon season and the deteriorating weather conditions. In this case two skiffs came within a distance of 500 meters from the tanker, where the ship's security guards fired warning shots. The two attacking boats then aborted the attack.
