Grounding off Keelung
The 'YM Unicorn', en route from Kaoshiung, ran aground on Dec 12, 2024, at 3.20 a.m. CST, while attempting to berth at the port of Keelung. The ship got stuck close to the red lighthouse in Dikou after it deviated from its course for unknown reasons. The traffic control center dispatched three tugs to assist the vessel. The pilot reported that the forepeak tank had suffered damage, leading to water ingress. Another four tugs were launched to assist the vessel, and with a joint effort, the ship was pulled free within 20 minutes and berthed at the Keelung West No. 19 pier by 4:35 a.m. An investigation into the incident has been opened.

YM Unicorn, an 8,626 TEU ful-container vessel built for Yang Ming by CSBC CORP., TAIWAN, was delivered and named at a ceremony held at CSBC Kaohsiung Shipyard on May 3, 2013, the shipping company's news release said. YM Unicorn is the last of five 8,626 TEU full-container vessel built for Yang Ming by CSBC CORP. This type of vessel is eco friendly. It features fuel-saving and high capacity, and also can contribute to environmental protection.
