Tanker stranded at sea for five days due to pump trouble
The 'Y L W', en route from the Haldia Dock Complex in Kolkata to Sharjah, was stranded at sea for five days due to a faulty fuel pump. The ship dropped anchor, and the technical issue was rectified with the assistance of the Kerala Maritime Board's Vizhinjam on Feb 18, 2025, after the Thiruvananthapuram-based shipping agency Dowins Resources sought help from the Maritime Board. Since the vessel was anchored 14 nautical miles offshore, a tug was deployed to deliver the replacement fuel pump on Feb 17 at 8 p.m. The pump was then transferred from the tug onto the bitumen tanker, using the ship's deck crane. Following the repair, the tanker resumed its voyage towards Sharjah on Feb 18 at around midnight. The Maritime Board earned ₹75,000 for the assistance provided.
