Tanker saved crew of sinking yacht
On Oct 30, 2013, the "Yenisei River" assisted the Swiss registered yacht "Caprea" which had radioed a distress call around 300 km south of Toulon with four people on board. The 13-meter yacht had suffered water ingress. The CROSS Mediterranean requested the "Yenisei River" which was nearby to report an exact position and establish direct radio communication with the yacht. A Cougar helicopter of the Air Force Base in Solenzara was deployed to recover the crew and arrived in the area around 8 p.m. Also a Dauphin helicopter of the French Navy Base in Hyères was sent to serve as a flying radio relay between the rescue center and the Cougar. Due to the rising water the crew of "Caprea" abandoned their ship once the "Yenisei River" arrived on site. The crew of the tanker recovered them and they were then airlifted aboard the Cougar which headed to Ajaccio, where they arrived safely around 9:30 p.m. The sailors were supported at the Naval Base Aspretto. The "Caprea" meanwhile sank in a water depth of 2600 meters.
