Vollsoy

On Dec 10, 2025, the 'Vollsøy' had to be sidelined at the quay in Mekjarvik due to technical problems with the bow thruster. The route Mekjarvik–Kvitsøy had to be completely shut down until further notice by the operator Boreal. Passengers were therefore expecting delays and alternative travel plans. A fast boat was to be added to the connection with the first departure from Mekjarvik at 2:20 tp.m. A subcontractor was called in to carry out repairs aboard the 'Vollsøy'.

The 'Vollsøy ', serving on the route Mekjarvik–Kvitsøy, had to cancel sailings on the morning of OCt 26, due to technical trouble. Affected were the departure at 10:10 a.m.from Mekjarvik and at 10:50 a.m.from Kvitsøy. The ferry was ready for departure again with the sailing from Mekjarvik at 11:40 a.m. At 12:35 p.m., the operator Boreal reported that the ferry was in operation, but that there could also be cancellations later. In fact the 'Peter Dass' was inserted on the Mekjarvik-Kvitsøy connection on Oct 28, starting at 11:40 fa.m. rom Mekjarvik. According to Boreal, the 'Vollsøy' had be taken out of service due to the technical problems for throrough investigations- The 'Vollsøy' had just returned to service after a fire in the engine room after repairs, which had lasted five month. It was not yet known how long the 'Vollsøy' will be sidelined.

The 'Vollsøy'has been docked since the Sep 4 at the Metjarvik in Stavanger. In the meantime, the reserve ferry 'Petter Dass' has been operating on the route between Mekjarvik and Kvitsøy, where delays have been reported on several occasions since. The engine damage, which had occurred on Aug 14, has turned out to be more extensive than initially expected. The operator Boreal hoped that the problems will be resolved soon.

The 'Vollsøy', serving on the route Mekjarvik-Kvitsøy, suffered technical problems and had to cancel the service on Aug 14 at 2:30 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., the operator Boreal informed that a fast boat from Kvitsøy was inserted on the connection and follow the timetable into the evening. The 'Vollsøy' 'had a fault with one of the engines. Service personnel from the engine supplier went on board and started troubleshooting, which was still going on as of Aug 15.

On the afternoon of May 6, 2025, a fire started in a generator of the engine room of the 'Vollsøy', which runs between Mekjarvik and Kvitsøy, in the port of Mekjarvik. Everyone has been accounted for and no one has been injured. A lot of black smoke came from the engine room of the ferry. The emergency services responded. The fire department sent smoke divers on board. Police patrols arrived at the scene just after 2 p.m. The fire engines arrived shortly before. Just after 2:30 p.m. the fire had been extinguished. The possible cause of the fire was a technical failure. It is unknown how much damage there was. The ferry was docked for maintenance. The "Fjordveien" had to be taken out of the service between Mekjarvik and Kvitsøy due to technical problems in the morning of March 21, 2017. SHe was sidelined in Mekjarvik for troubleshooting. First, the connection was served by speedboat, but late in the night, the ferry "Hamarøy" was called to replace the "Fjordveien". It was not yet known how long it would take to resolve the problems with the main engine, but it may take about a week before the the damage was rectified. The "Stord", which usually is a spare ferry for the route Mekjarvik-Kvitsøy, was actually running between Lauvvik and Oanes since the "Finnøy" was taken out of service due to a scheduled maintenance.

The ferry service between Mekjarvik and Kvitsøy had to be suspended in the morning of Jan 13, 2014, due to technical troubles of the "Fjordveien". An express ferry departed at 10.50 a.m. frmo Mekjarvik and followed the published timetables. During the repairs on the ferry delays were not ruled out.
