Passenger fell overboard at sea

A passenger on the 'Volcán de Timanfaya', which operaaes between Almería and Melilla, fell overboard at sea on the early morning of May 19. The man fell overboard at around 2:00 a.m. while the ship was at sea. The crew immediately tried to locate the man, without success. It was then decided to resume the journey to Melilla, where the ship eventually arrived with a two-hour delay at around 8:30 a.m. The maritime rescue services took action after being alerted and have deployed a helicopter in an attempt to find the missing passenger. The searches have not yet yielded any results. An official investigation has been opened to determine the causes and circumstances of the fall into the sea.

Due to the strong winds with gusts of of 80 knots and heavy rains in the Bay of Cadiz, the “Volcán de Timanfaya” has broken its stern moorings in the port of Cadiz on the morning of March 8, 2025, and has hit the ferry “Villa de Tazacorte” (IMO: 9399325), causing damage to its hull and paint. The RCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Cádiz mobilized the SAR ship 'María Zambrano' and contacted the port authorities, which mobilized pilots and two more tugs. The situation could be brought back to normal. The “Volcán de Timanfaya” was undergoing engine maintenance at the time of the incident.

On Oct 4, 2024, a passenger had to be medevaced from the “Volcán de Timanfaya”, when the ship, which temporarily was covering the Málaga-Melilla route of the Armas Trasmediterránea Group, was 23 nautical miles west of Alborán. At 02:43 a.m. the ship's notification was received by Salvamento Marítimo, and the CCS Almería mobilized the Helimer 205 SAR helicopter, which proceeded to evacuate him and transferred him to the airport of the capital of Almería.
