Human remains identified as missing crew member
Human remains found in Newfoundland and Labrador on Oct 19, were those of a Canadian Coast Guard employee who went missing at sea from the 'Vincent Massey' on Sep 16. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the province’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that the remains discovered in Placentia Bay were those of the crew member. The Coast Guard had conducted a massive SAR operation off Pouch Cove on the northeastern Avalon Peninsula to try to locate the man, who was originally from the Quebec City area. Ships and aircraft were involved in the two-day effort. He was last seen on the evening of Sept. 15, as the 'Vincent Massey' was sailing near the northeast coast of Newfoundland. The crew realized the man was missing the next morning when the vessel arrived in St. John's. An exhaustive search was conducted on the vessel, but the man was not found.
Crew member lost at sea
A crew member of the CCGS 'Vincent Massey' has been lost at sea off southern Newfoundland. An extensive SAR operation for the man was ended on the evening of Sep 17, 2024. He was reported missing on Sep 16 at 8.15 a.m., when the Coast Guard vessel arrived in St. John’s, N.L. He was last seen aboard the ship on the evening of Sep 15, as the vessel sailed along Newfoundland's northeast coast. After an unsuccessful search of the vessel, a multi-asset sea search commenced. Canadian Coast Guard vessels, aircraft and vessels from other federal sources assisted in the search. The matter was now with the RCMP.
Viking Supply Ships sells anchor handling trio to Canada
Sweden’s Viking Supply Ships has sold three icebreaking anchor handling tug supply vessels to the Canadian government. Tor Viking, Balder Viking and Vidar Viking have been sold, with the transaction expected to close by the end of the month. Viking Supply Ships reported a first half-year loss of $40m.
