Fire on ferry in Bognes

The 'Barøy' suffered a fire while she was docked at Bognes in Hamarøy municipality on the foremidday of Nov 14, 2024. The emergency services have rushed to the scene, and the fire service got it under control.There must have been an explosion in a charging unit in a board. There was no fire in the battery pack. The power has been cut, so there was no danger of deterioration, but there is a lot of smoke. The fire brigade has started ventilation. There qwre no passengers on board. One person may have inhaled some smoke, and was checked by health personnel. All the crew members who were on board have been accounted for. The police was investigating at the scene.

Ferry sidelined due to technical trouble

In the morning of July 13, 2017, ferry operator Torghatten Nord informed that the "Barøy" had encountered technical problems and was withdrawn from the Bognes-Lødingen route. She was replaced with the "Hamarøy" which meant that departures at 05:15 a.m. and 08:00 a.m. from Lødingen and at 06:30 a.m. and 09:15 a.m. from Bognes had to be canceled. The first departure from Lødingen was at 10:30 a.m. It was not clear how long the ferry would be out of order and remain at the quay in Lødingen.

New gas ferry broke down

On July 7, 2014, the "Barøy" broke down just before arriving at Bognes, whilst coming from Lødingen. The ferry dropped anchor 100 meters off the port of Bognes with the passengers remaining on board after the engine stopped. The lifeboat "Sundtflyer" was called for assistance to tow the ferry back to Lødingen. At 2.30 p.m. the ferry finally docked and the passengers could drive off. In the evening at 8.30 p.m. the "Barøy" was towed from Bognes to Bodø by the "Det Norske Veritas", assisted by the "Sundt Flyer" from Svolær in fine weather. The tow was expected to take some hours.
