Thr Verizon', with 22 crew members on board, caught fire on Dec 29, 2025, at 5.16 a.m. WIB in Surabaya. Members of the East Java Police's Water and Air Police Directorate conducted security measures using a motorboat at the site of the fire, which broke out while the ship was moored at the Berlian Terminal, Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, East Java. The fire ignited in the vessel’s engine room and continued to intensify, spreading to the fuel storage area, The burned area was approximately 20 square meters, with a depth of 6 to 7 meters, from top to bottom. Wasis deployed 16 fire trucks from the Pasar Turi, Tambakrejo, Margomulyo, Pakis, Wiyung, Rungkut, and Grudo posts. Five rescue teams were also deployed. The combat unit arrived at the location of the burning container ship at around 5:21 a.m. and immediately began extinguishing the fire. The main fire was extinguished around 9:05 a.m. Approximately 19 fire trucks from the Firefighting Team of PT Pelindo Regional 3 and the Surabaya Fire and Rescue Department (DPKP) along with four tugboats were deployed to extinguish the fire on the container-laden ship. The crew was safely evacuated. The fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit in the engine room, though an official investigation had yet to be launched to determine the exact cause.
