Tanker rescued 139 migrants
The 'Beks Bodrum', en route from Istanbul to Tunis, has rescued 139 migrants aboard a sinking boat between Tunisia and Malta on March 24, 2024. The crew of the tanker received an urgent distress call and quickly changed course to help the migrant boat. They demanded gasoline to continue our journey. However, when the tanker approached the boat, itstarted to take on water. The crew launched a rescue operation, successfully evacuating 139 migrants, among them three women, including Syrians, Palestinians, Egyptians, Ethiopians and Algerians, on board the ship and providing them with essential food aid. They were handed over to the Italian Coast Guard later. Three people were reported missing. During a search another person was picked up. Then the tanker was directed to another boat, which was found empty.
