Houston-based offshore drilling contractor Rowan on Tuesday said it has to warm stack one of its drillships after Spanish oil firm Repsol terminated its contract early. Rowan said it will continue to be paid by Repsol for the Rowan Renaissance rig – but at a rate slightly reduced from the standby rate, which was 98% of the $630,000-a-day operating rate – through to the original contract ending date of April 22, 2017. The standby rate had been in effect since mid-March. An Italian Greenpeace activist was hurt on Nov 15, 2014, in a confrontation with the Spanish navy that intervened during fresh protests against an oil exploration project in waters off the Canary Islands. The propeller of a Greenpeace boat cut and broke a 23-year-old Italian woman's leg after she fell overboard during the dawn clash. The navy believed the activists were trying to board the "Rowan Renaissance", and had moved in to halt three Greenpeace boats. A video clip of the confrontation shows the activists' boats very close to the "Rowan Renaissance".
