Ship fined for oil pollution
A fine of 1 million 624 thousand 713 TL was imposed on the 'Sea Spirit' on March 5, 2022, which was found to have polluted the Gulf of Izmit in a port in the Başiskele district. During routine inspections with a surveillance aircraft, it was noticed that the vessel polluted the sea during the fueling of a port in Başiskele district. The teams of the Environmental Protection and Control Department quickly reached the region and took measures to prevent further fuel from flowing into the sea, together with the Port authorities. The metropolitan crews initiated a process to impose a fine of 1 million 624 thousand 713 TL on the ship within the framework of the Environmental Law. The ship had left Novorossyisk on Feb 27, en route to Izmit with an ETA as of March 3.
