Tanker caught during water pollution
A Swedish Coast Guard surveillance aircraft spotted an oil spill near Falsterbo and was able to directly trace it to the 'Banglar Agragoti', which was cleaning its tanks southwest of Falsterbo in the vicinity of pos. 55 19 00 N, 012 39 57 E on Nov 13, 2023, at 11.30 a.m. The extent of the spill was about eight square kilometres. The aircraft dropped a sampling buoy which, after analysis, showed palm oil. The result was matched against a reference sampling when the vessel reached Gothenburg on Nov 14, and was boarded by the Swedish Coast Guard. After questioning, the Master of the vessel was sentenced to 50 daily fines, equivalent to 3580 US dollars. The ship left Gothenburg the same day en route to Amsterdam and moored on IJmuiden Anchorage on Nov 20.
