Bulkcarrier attacked off Nigeria

The "Venus Bay" was attacked and boarded by armed pirates on Nov 11, 2017, at 08.22 a.m. in position 04 07N 007 00E, about 23 miles south of Bonny in the Gulf of Guinea. The pirates penetrated the wheelhouse and opened fire, thereby damaging the windows. They stole some ehip’s property, robbed the crew of their cash and belongings and kidnapped 10 crew members. Ships of the Nigerian Navy intercepted the boat with the pirates and the hostages who were successfully freed. The Navy seized five pirates. The bulkcarrier with armed guards on board was escorted to Port Harcourt, arriving there on Nov 13 at 9.20 a.m.
