A fuel spill during a ship to ship transfer of fuel at Wharf 2 in Port Weller hut down the Welland Canal on June 18, 2015 at 1.15 a.m. The fuel overflow occurred when the "Atlantic Huron" was receiving fuel after exiting the canal with a load of coal picked up in Chicago bound for Sydney, N.S. . Between 100 and 150 litres were spilled into the Lake Ontario. When the "Atlantic Huron" crew noticed the fuel spill, it quickly contacted the crew of the "Sterling Energy" to stop pumping and then activated CSL’s emergency response plan and called the Eastern Canada Response Corp. to the scene to contain and cleanup the spill. A boom was deployed to contain the spill to the immediate area around the vessel. The fuel, which floated on the surface, was being vacuumed by a team from Eastern Canada Response Corp.
