Ferry to be withdrawn from route between GrenĂĄ and Halmstad
Stena Line has decided to close the ferry route between Grenå and Halmstad, which is being operated by the 'Stena Nautica' with effect from April 30, 2026. As many of the affected employees as possible will be offered other employment within Stena Line. The background to the decision was that the company had significant challenges in achieving profitable operation on the route for a long time. The decicision was deemed necessary to future-proof the business and continue to contribute with a well-functioning network of ferry connections as an important part of the infrastructure in Denmark and Europe. Stena Line has been operating the Grenå-Halmstad route since 2020 with the 'Stena Nautica'. The route was moved from Varberg due to new plans for the port of Varberg. “The Grenå-Halmstad route has been an important part of Stena Line’s network, and for a long time we have worked purposefully with various initiatives to reverse the trend. However, without a sufficient customer base, this has not been successful, and we have therefore made this difficult decision. We would like to thank our partners in municipalities, regions and the business community – on both the Danish and Swedish sides – for good and valuable cooperation during the period in which we have operated the route,” said Christina Bromander, Trade Director for Stena Line in Denmark. Stena Line's Swedish ferry network will then include six routes and 12 ships: Gothenburg–Frederikshavn, Gothenburg–Kiel, Trelleborg–Rostock, Karlskrona–Gdynia, Nynäshamn–Ventspils and, from February 2026,– Umeå–Vaasa via the recently acquired Wasaline.
