Detention for illegal anchoring
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained the 'Stellar Enguri' for illegally anchoring 15 nautical miles west of Kuala Muda in the evening of Jan 9, 2024. The vessel was spotted berthing at the location by the Malaysian Maritime Surveillance System in Langkawi about 5.45 p.m. Upon an inspection, the master failed to produce a document to show that the vessel had obtained an approval to berthing at the location. The vessel is suspected to have committed a felony uner Section 491B(1)(I) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance (MSO) 1952 that carries carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or a jail term of up to two years or both, upon conviction. The ship was stationary in pos. 05° 36.30' N 100° 05.36 E on Jan 10. The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its report on the allision of the 'Atlantic Venus', now the 'Stellar Enguri', and the cargo m/v 'Nomadic Milde' on May 8, 2020, at about 4.55 p.m. LT in which the anchored 'Nomadic Milde' contacted the anchored bulk carrier 'Atlantic Venus' on the Lower Mississippi River near New Orleans. After the 'Nomadic Milde' began to swing and drag its anchors in the current, it allided with the 'Atlantic Venus', which had been anchored directly behind it, and then struck a nearby chemical dock and grounded on the bank. No injuries were reported. The Nomadic Milde released an estimated 13 gallons of lube oil into the river. Damage to both vessels and the dock was estimated at $16.9 million. Bulkcarrier assisted in rescue of distressed migrants
On Jan 2, 2018, the "Atlantic Venus", enroute from Istanbul to the USA, sighted a boat with six men from North-Africa inside 12 miles NE of Ceuta, and alerted Salvamento Maritimo. The "Salvamar Atria" was deplyoed to assist and took them safely to port.
