Bulk carrier rescued 37 migrants

On the morning of Aug 29, 2024, the Port Authorities of Chania and Rethymno were informed by the Greek Coast Guardabpitf a boat with migrants in a difficult position about ​​30 nauttical miles south of Gavdos. The 37 people were picked up by the nearby 'Stelios B', which was sailing in the area en route from San Lorenzo to Port Said. They were then transferred to a lifeboat and transported to the port of Chora Sfakion, from where they were transferred to a temporary accommodation facility in Agia Chania. The Central Port Authority of Chania, which was conducting the preliminary investigation, arrested two men, aged 26 and 22, who were identified as the skipper and the assistant of the boat respectively, for violating Law 5038/2023 ¨Immigration Code¨ as amended and in force with Law 5079/2023, of Law 3386/2005 ¨Illegal entry into the country¨, of article 306 of the Law ¨Exposure¨ and article 45 of the P.C. ¨Collaboration.
