Stavangerfjord

A fishing boat sent a Mayday call and sank off Arsvågen, and the lone skipper landed in the water of the Bokna Fjord in the morning of Apr 28, 2016. After the distress call was relayed by Rogaland Radio, the crew of the nearby "Stavangerfjord" headed to the scene, launched a rescue boat and rescued the man from the water in goods shape thanks to speedy and professional handling of the crew. A Sea King rescue helicopter which was scrambled from Sola could thus be stood down again. On Aug 9, 2013, a fire broke out aboard the Mortavika-Arsvågen Ferry "Stavangerfjord". After a loud bang was heard, passengers saw a lot of smoke out of the smokestack. The ferry turned around after that and went back to Mortavika. At 16 cars were all evacuated from the ferry deck, they had to reverse to get off. The small fire was put out shortly after. The ship was taken out of service and was sidelined in Mortavika. The remaining two ferries ran as normal but many cars queued in Mortavika. Departures from Arsvågen on Dec 13, 2011 at 10, 11 and 12 a.m. and from Mortavika at 09.30,10.30,11.30 and 12.30 a.m. had to be canceled. There can also be further cancellations as the "Stavangerfjord" had to be taken out of service for a repair and the "Bergensfjord" was to use as a replacement ferry. But on Dec 12 the "Bergenfjord" suffered problems with a pump and had to be repaired first. The problems were fixed in the night and the ship sailed from Halhjem . Once the "Bergensfjord" was in place, the ferry service should be back to normal, but in the morning a storm was ragin again, so this was in question. The "Stavangerfjord" will probably be out of operation for three or four days until the technicians have found and fixed the problem with the gas installation which was the reason why the ferry had to be taken out of service.
