Search for missing crew member suspended
The Coast Guard suspended its search for an Indian tanker crewman reported missing from the "Rainbow Quest" near Southwest Pass on Jan 8. Coast Guard crews searched for 44 hours in a search area of 1,179 square miles approximately five miles south of Southwest Pass in an effort to locate him. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the tanker that he was missing after an 8 a.m. muster on Jan 7. The ship conducted sweeps of the vessel with negative results; no life jackets were reported missing. The man was last seen on Jan 6 at 9 p.m. wearing an orange jump suit. Sector New Orleans watchstanders dispatched two HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrews from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile in Mobile, four MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crews from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, two 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Venice, and a crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter "Pelican", an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in Abbeville. The search was suspended pending further developments.

The Coast Guard was searching for a an Indian crewman reported missing from the "Rainbow Quest" which was anchored fives miles south of Southwest Pass on Jan 7, 2014. Missing was Ram Mohan Singh, aged 25. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the tanker that Singh was missing after an 8 a.m. muster. The crew conducted sweeps of the vessel with negative results; no life jackets were reported missing. The vessel has been at the Southwest Pass Anchorage for the past 24 hours. Singh was last seen Monday at 9 p.m. wearing an orange jump suit. Search-and-rescue resources were: A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65D helicopter crew; A Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala. HC-144 Ocean Sentry crew; A Coast Guard Station Venice 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boatcrew.
