Ship suffered hole in foreship

Nov 12, 2024 13:45

The 'Splendid Ace' suffered a significant hole in the foreship in Port Kingstown, St. Vincent, while attempting to dock at the cruise ship berth on the morning of Nov 10, 2024. The breach in the vessel, located just above the waterline, posed multiple operational challenges and necessitates a comprehensive professional assessment of the damage before its secure removal from the current location. The vessel probably struck an underwater object, necessitating the offloading of more cargo than usual to prevent water intrusion. As the hole emerged midway along the waterline prior to the ship’s offloading, it was conceivable that it encountered an object in the vicinity. Divers typically inspect the berthing area prior to the arrival of the ships. The vessel offloaded cargo in Saba, Venezuela; Trinidad; and Barbados before docking in St. Vincent.

At 1.50 p.m. the ship was back at the Ems Quay, while three of the tugs kept pushing until the evening hours. The scheduled departure from Emden was postponed to Oct 8 now.
