Hapag Lloyd ship struck by projectile

On March 12, 2026, at 2.20 a.m. LT, the 'Source Blessing', which had been enroute from Hamad to Sohar, when the Iran war broke out, was struck by fragments of an unknown projectile, 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali, and suffered material damage. A small fire, which broke out in the engine room, could be extinguished by the crew, but the ship lost power. The crew was reportedly safe. She had sailed from Jebel Ali on March 4 for a short-trip to Sohar, but AIS still showed the vessel near the origin with a swarm of other vessels. It was anchored in pos. 25° 54' N 055° 30' E r in the northwestern part of the Persian Gulf. The registered owned of the ship is the Well Wonder 1 Ltd. in Fujian. The 'Source Blessing' is deployed on Maersk's M04 shuttle service in the Gulf. The vessel was built in Taiwan and operated by Lykes Lines as the 'Lykes Flyer' and more recently as the 'Washington Express' by Hapag-Lloyd. The ship was currently being used by the Gemini Cooperation, on charter to Hapag-Lloyd as head charterer, which have sub-chartered to Maersk as a Gulf feeder.

Keeping with Port Canaveral’s maritime tradition, Captain Karl Fidler and crew from the Hapag-Lloyd AG Washington Express container ship were presented with a plaque to welcome them toPort Canaveral. Hapag-Lloyd is a multinational German-based transportation company. It is composed of a cargo container shipping line, Hapag-Lloyd AG, which in turn owns other subsidiaries such as Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. The container transport arm of Hapag-Lloyd AG is currently the world’s fifth largest container carrier in terms of vessel capacity. Crewmember of Washington Express burned

An injured sailor was brought into Bermuda for treatment after he suffered serious burns to his hands after an accident on board the "Washington Express2 on June 6, 2011. He was picked up by the pilot boat at Five Fathom Hole off St David’s at 2 p.m. and was brought into Ordnance Island where a waiting ambulance took him to hospital. The container ship continued its way from Germany to Charleston, South Carolina where it berthed on June 9.
