Russian cargo ship escaped British ban in last minute
The 'Sormovskiy 3068' which had arrived at Sunderland’s port on Feb 27, 2022, sailed from the port on Feb 28, at 1 p.m., just hours before Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced a ban on Russia’s access to UK ports. The ship had berthed at the East Quay to load a cargo of limestone. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps sent a letter to all UK ports asking them not to provide access to any Russian flagged, registered, owned, controlled, chartered or operated vessels in the afternoon of Feb 28. The ship was actually headed to Aggersund with an ETA as of March 3.
