ShishirWahi, who was in charge of the "Cotton" when it was hijacked at midnight on July 15, 2013, finally reached his Alipore home on July 31. He boarded the tanker on July 11 at port Gentil and took charge as captain the next day. On July 15, pirates attacked the ship near Gabon off the west-central African coast. The ship had 20 crew members, all Indians, including six from Kolkata. On July 30 the relatives got the information that the pirates had left the ship the day before. Wahi landed at Kolkata airport on July 31 morning and returned to his Alipore resident.

The Ghana Navy in a joint operation with National Security has intercepted and arrested the crew of a ship, MT MUSTARD, for suspected involvement in a piracy incident off the coast of Gabon. MT MUSTARD is suspected to have been used to siphon off about 3,500 Metric tons of fuel from another vessel - MT COTTON - after the latter had been hijacked by suspected pirates on or about 14th July, 2013 off Port Gentil, Gabon. MT MUSTARD then set sail for Ghanaian waters and first docked at the Tema port anchorage following which it headed for an offshore facility in Saltpond. The Vessel was intercepted at Saltpond and the crew was arrested by the Ghana Navy after collaborating with National Security.

All 20 Indian crew members aboard chemical tanker MV Cotton, hijacked by suspected pirates off the coast of Gabon last week, are safe and the ship is back under their control, ministry of external affairs said on Monday (July 22, 2013). "MV Cotton back under control of crew. All crew of MV Cotton safe," ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted. The Turkish-owned, Maltese-flagged tanker was believed to be hijacked on Sunday while awaiting berthing in the Gulf of Guinea.
