Tanker suffered engine failure off Travemünde
On the evening of Feb 4, 2026, the 'Skorpion' suffered an engine failure while heading towards the estuary of the Trave River. This resulted in a complete power outage on board, and an emergency anchoring maneuver had to be initiated. The ship was held in position by a tug. After the engine was restarted, the tanker was escorted to the Scandinavia Quay in Travemünde.. The Travemünde Water Police have launched an investigation. Initial findings suggested that the engine's sea filter was likely clogged by silt and ice from the river, causing the engine failure. The employers' liability insurance association for transport issued a sailing ban; further investigations by the water police followed. The ship left the port again on Feb 5, en route to Rostock.
