Sailings cancelled due to crew shortages
BC Ferries has cancelled 12 sailings on the 'Skeena Queen' on July 17, 2022, due to crew availability issues. The following sailings for the Skeena Queen on July 17 have been cancelled: 1:50 p.m. departing Fulford Harbour 3:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay 3:50 p.m. departing Fulford Harbour 5:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay 5:50 p.m. departing Fulford Harbour 7:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay 7:50 p.m. departing Fulford Harbour 9:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay BC Ferries has found a water taxi that will provide service between Swartz Bay and Fulford Harbour, which will be following the regular schedule. The water taxi can only hold 45 people at a time. On July 23 all sailings on the route from 5:50 p.m. to 9 p.m. have been cancelled from through July 30. The route is operating on its normal schedule before the 5:50 p.m. sailing each day, and a free, 48-person water taxi is operating on the route's regular schedule in place of the 'Skeena Queen' from 5:50 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Ferry suffered electrical problems
Two sailings between Swartz Bay and Fulford were cancelled in the night of Nov 13, 2020, after the 'Skeena Queen'developed electrical problems. The vessel left Swartz Bay for Fulford as scheduled at 7 p.m., but 10 minutes into the sailing, the crew dropped anchor and looked into the problem. The ferry returned to dock at Swartz Bay so engineers could continue to work on the issue. Crews managed to fix the problem and the vessel resumed sailing just before 10 p.m. The scheduled 9 p.m. sailing left Swartz Bay nearly an hour behind schedule.
Ferry sidelined due to technical trouble
A complimentary water taxi was transporting people between Salt Spring Islandβs Fulford Harbour and Swartz Bay on Oct 21, 2020, after the 'Skeena Queen' ran into mechanical problems. The water taxi has a 15-passenger capacity. Along with the that, the 'Mayne Queen' was scheduled to provide an afternoon round trip of supplementary service. The 'Skeena Queen' had encountered issues with two electrical generators and needed repairs in Swartz Bay. The 'Bowen Queen' continued to provide service between Vesuvius and Crofton, as scheduled. On Oct 18, the 'Queen of Alberni was withdrawn from the Duke Point-Tsawwassen route due to a problem with its controllable pitch propeller.
