Silver-Ray

On the morning of Oct 21, the SAR boat 'Salvamar Naos' was deployed to medevac a woman from the 'Silver Ray', enroute from Cartagena, and take her to to the port of Ibiza. The alert arrived at the CCS Palma of Salvamento Marítimo at 7:32 a.m. The woman was embarked onto the SAR boat, and upon the arrival at the port, an ambulance was already waiting for further transport to hospital.

The Italian authorities reviewed videos and checked the AIS signal for the 'Silver Ray' and confirmed it had come within 500 meters of the rock structure as the vessel came to a close range from the coast of Marina Piccola amd approached the Faraglioni rock formations off Capri en route from Naples to Monaco on May 3, 2025. That was a failure to maintain a minimum distance under Italian regulations. As a result, the ship was fined €1,032. The 'Silver Ray', which was on a return leg to Fort Lauderdale, was coping with an outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness that affected 5.5% of guests, and will undergo a “super-sanitizing” upon the return to Port Everglades. The ship has 681 passengers onboard. Cruise ships are required to notify the CDC if more than 3% of guests or crew members report symptoms. The 'Silver Ray’s 16-night cruise to Lima, Peru, began on Jan 5, 2025, calling at ports in Ecuador, Columbia, and Aruba, and transiting the Panama Canal. The ship has already intensified cleaning and sanitizing methods, which appears to have limited the spread of the illness, but Silversea will bring a special cleaning crew onboard upon arrival at Port Everglades. As a result of the enhanced cleaning, the embarkation for the next voyage, departing on Jan 20, will be delayed until 4 p.m. The all-aboard time is 6 p.m.

43 people got sick in a gastrointestinal illness outbreak on the 'Silver Ray'. Among the 681 guests onboard, 38 reported being ill during the current voyage, along with five crew members, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Their main symptoms were diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The health agency listed the causative agent as unknown. The 'Silver Ray' had departed from Callao on Jan. 4, 2025, and is scheduled to arrive at Port Everglades on Jan 20. Silversea enacted heightened sanitation protocols and isolated sick guests and crew, among other measures.
