Report found out: Allision was fault of captain

Mar 22, 2016 10:46

One year after the sallision of the "Saint George" with the Brunsbüttel lock in the Kiel Canal the Federal Agency of Maritime Casualty Investigation (BSU) has published its final report on MAr 21, 2016. An error of the captain was the cause of the accident on MAr 20, 2015. He put the engine telegraph accidentally in the wrong direction so the ship increased speed instead of slowing down and slammed into the gate with five knots. The 1200 tons-gate had to be replaced and the lock was closed for 53 days.
