Sider-Athena

The 'Sider Athena' has been detained in Bremen in the frame of the inspections after the grounding due to significant deficiencies in the bridge design, structural damages to the hull, and a failure of the safety management system. The ship had to remain in port while the investigations by the authorities (including those against the captain and the pilot) and the remediation of the deficiencies were ongoing. It remained stationary as of March 20.

The 'Sider Athena', enroute to Ravenna, ran out of the fairway of the Weser on the morning of March 11, 2026, coming from Bremerhaven, due to a navigational mistake. Two tugs were able to refloat the loaden ship and brought it to the MSC Terinal at the Strom Quay in Bremerhaven.The measuring station located at the edge of the fairway had subsequently disappeared. Also the 'Sider Athena' was slightly damaged. The traffic control center initially issued a prohibition on the ship continuing its journey. Investigations were launched against the ship's commanding officer and the pilot on board. The ship shifted to the Neustädter Port in Bremen on the morning of March 14, where the hull was to be thoroughly investigated by divers. The ship remained stationary as of March 19.
