Detained ship released
The 'Sheksna' which had been detained in Sligo on Oct 16 has been released. She had been arrested two days after its arrival from the port of Sfax under the provisions of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The detention followed a routine Irish Marine Survey Office (MSO) inspection of the ship after its arrival in Sligo. The ship had been berthed at Deepwater Quay for almost a fortnight and had over 2,000 tonnes of olive stone granulate which was discharged before the ship was impounded. The ship left Sligo on Nov 6 after noon on high tide. The 11 crew members are still on board the ship but have been kept well-provisioned since their arrival. They had been re-supplied in recent days.
Grounding on the Elbe
On Sep 21, 2017, at 6.47 a.m. the "Sheksna" ran aground on the Elbe off Hamburg-Cranz at the Mühlenberg Hole. The ship had loaded a 135-tons-generator at the J.J. Sietas Yard in Neuenfelde which was bound to Riga. Upon the return from the Este the ship got stuck with the outgoing tide, possibly having sailed too late. With the high tide at 6.20 p.m. tugs started to refloat the vessel. In the afternoon the tug "Löwe" (211590310) had connected to the vessel which was stuck within the fairway betwen the buoys EZ 7 and EZ 9. After the ship was pulled off, it was berthed at the Mönckeberg Quay in the Ellerholz Port in Hamburg at warehouse 76/77 for investigations before proceeding to the Jöhnk Yard in Harburg for repairs. It left the yard on Oct 10 at 9.45 p.m. after repairs and moored at the pilings in the Northern Elbe. The ship recently has also been engaged in the controversial transportation of nuclear materials to Hamburg, which made her a target for ecologist protests and criticism.
