Chandris hit with $1m pollution fine

Greek owner Chandris has agreed to pay a $1m fine for dumping pollution into the Texas Gulf Coast. The owner pleased guilty at a Texas court to violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships. The chief engineer of the Sestrea -an LR product tanker Chandris operated – failed to document that the ship had dumped directly into the sea oily waste that should have been disposed through a separator aboard the vessel or burned in the ship’s incinerator.
