Grounding off Esbjerg

Oct 13, 2012 21:18

On Oct 11, 2012, the "Esvagt Corona" ran aground off Esbjerg. The ship first tried to get off with its own power, and then with the help of a local fishing boat. But the hawser broke several times and the attempt had to be abandoned. Subsequently, the two Svitzer tugs "Svitzer Skuld" and "Svitzer Helios" were called for assistance. The grounding occurred during a trial after the "Esvagt Corona" had been docked for repair and overhaul due to a sudden power failure at 12.50 a.m. The ship drifted onto a sandbar and was freed at 3 p.m. The vessel was escorted to a quay in Esbjerg Harbour by two tugs then.
