Tanker arrested for illegal trading
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Nigerian Navy arrested the "Aysu" on Feb 6, 2019, for trading illegally in Nigeria's territorial waters. The vessel was underway with expired seaworthiness certificates. Additionally, the vessel owner reportedly owes dues and levies to MIMASA amounting to US$ 42,000. The Nigerian Naval personnel went on board the vessel for investigations and questioning of the crew.
Pirate attack off Brass
The "Ebunola" issued a distress signal on VHF, reporting an attack by pirates near position lat 03 30N, long 06 20E about 45nm south of Brass at about 9 a.m. Nigerian naval personnel embarked on the tanker responded to and repelled the attack.
