Body of missing crew member recovered, five Indians still missing
On Oct 20, the body of the Thevalakkara native Sreerag Radhakrishnan was recovered off Beira. Sreerag had worked for the Scorpio Marine, a company based in Mozambique, for four years. Indrajith had left for Mozambique on Oct 13. Meanwhile the search was continuing for five still missing Indian nationals, ncluding Sreerag and Indrajith, 22, from Piravom, Ernakulam. The death of three Indian crew members was confirmed earlier.
Seven people missing after boat with exchange crew capsized alongside tanker
Seven people were missing after a service boat capsized alongside the 'Sea Quest' at Beira's outer anchorage on the morning of Oct 16, 2025. The vessel, carrying personnel for the tanker, had 21 people onboard, 14 of whom were to sign on as crew members for the 'Sea Quest', which was anchored off the port, awaiting its turn to berth. During this time, thr launch, operated by the Scorpio_Marine_Management India Pvt. Ltd. (RPSL-MUM-165), was ferrying 12 on-signing Indian crew members to the ship. While the transfer operation was underway alongside the vesselβs starboard side, the launch suddenly capsized. 14 castaways were rescued by the tanker and good samaritans, but seven people, including five of the seafarers, who were to sign on as crew members aboard the 'Sea Quest', one technician and one crew member of the service boat, were missing. Out of the 12 Indian seafarers on board, five have been rescued safely, two were found unresponsive, and five remained missing. Three of the rescued received medical care aboard the tanker. The MRCC has been notified, and nearby ships were assisting in the SAR operations. Three of the survivors were receiving medical care aboard the tanker, with arrangements for further treatment being underway. The Scorpio Ship Management was in close contact with authorities and the families of those missing and confirmed that a full investigation into the cause of the incident would follow, The tanker remained stationary off Beira in pos. 19Β° 55' N 035Β° 09' E as of Oct 17. Safe (5) Second Officer Ankit Kumar, Third Officer Sreerag Thayyil Purappodi, Pumpman Sunilkumar Tandel, Oiler Azim Mukadam, and Able Seaman Narendra Behara. Unresponsive (2) Ordinary Seaman Ruban Rayar and Ordinary Seaman Mohan Singh Shekhawat (both are under medical care and resuscitation efforts). Missing (5) Electro-Technical Officer Sreerag Radhakrishnan, Bosun Tharakeswara Rao, Able Seaman Saileshkumar Solanki, Able Seaman Mubeen Koruhajige Athirige, and Chief Cook Nandan Singh. In an official communication, Director General of Shipping Shyam Jagannathan has requested the Marshall Islands Maritime Administration to conduct a fact-finding investigation into the circumstances of the incident and share the report with India at the earliest.
